HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Well loyal friends, family & fans, another new year has come and gone and for those of you who have been keeping up, it’s been an interesting one.

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted after reading so many end-of-year recaps; Top Ten Films / Books / Words / Good things (OK, I don’t mind the good things so much), encapsulating the year that has gone before us.

Since pictures speak at least 1000 words, in lieu of yet another lengthy diatribe, this pictorial sum-up will give you a quick-n-dirty (figurative) 25,000.

Here' goes...

January:
I went to the Sundance Film Festival for the first time.

Me & Sylvia Caminer at the ever-so-famous Egyptian Theatre

Makin' snow angels

February:
Held a “Thirty-Faux” Birthday party with good friends. Everyone had to show up with something “fake, faux, false, or otherwise, untrue.”

Colleen (fake tattoo & eyelashes) Terri (lashes & weave) and me (faux tresses)

March:
Prepped to start production on A PRETTY GIRL.

April:
Investors disappeared. I cried. A lot.

May:
A family emergency brought me to Florida for a month. My friend Guy had his annual kite party. What a blast!

Guy & his kite on the glorious Clearwater Beach

June:
I directed a children's production of THE MAGIC FLUTE for The Opera Company of Brooklyn.

July:
My friend, Amy Axelson, and I decided to make a short documentary…

Me & Amy

… about bikini waxing.

My dog Bailey went to go live with my cousin Susan in Connecticut. I miss her something fierce, but I know she’s happier in the country with room to run, kids to entertain her and another dog to keep her company.

Bailey & her new sister, Casey

August:
Amy, Suzanne (our Editor) and I spent two months whittling down 24 hours of footage into a 20-minute film.

A view of the editing screen

September:
My brother and his wife celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary with a big party in North Carolina.

Could be the cutest damn family ever...

October:
We finished the film and started submitting it to film festivals (no word yet… stay tuned.)

November:
I wrote a 50,000 word novel as part of an international writing challenge.

December:
I started a blog.

We had our first Friends-n-Family screening of WHY WE WAX...

The Teeming Masses...

Amy & Suzanne, our brilliant Editor & Co-Producer

Janet, Lillian (my APG Producer) and me

Alex (our Sound Editor), Bob, Linda & Neeta (our Music Supervisor)

...and we launched the new website for the film. As soon as we start getting festival acceptances, screening dates, press, news, and all kinds of other updates: we’ll start posting them there. So check back from time to time for all the latest and greatest in ’08… est. (Okay, that was terrible, I know!)

I spent Christmas back in Florida with the fam…

My parents. 40 years together and still as much in love as the day they first met!

… and New Year’s with my posse.

And thus concludes my yearly sum-up!

According to my horoscope, 2008 is supposed to be a year of foundation-building for 2009, which is supposed to be my most incredible year, ever. OK. I'm going to choose to believe that and use it as inspiration to get things moving again for A PRETTY GIRL: a new rewrite, the Indiewood 'shuck and jive' and finger-crossing for loads of money-raising karma.

So, to stay on the pulse of all that exciting foundation-building action, stay tuned to She Shoots to Conquer: The Blog. You'll also get a hefty helping of rants, ramblings, photos, personal and film updates, recipes, adventures and divertissements, all to keep you amused for roughly 3 minutes a day. So be sure to come back for seconds! And when you do stop by, let me know you’re lookin’ and say 'hi'! It increases your own comment-karma!

I hope you and yours are off to a splendid start to 2008!!!

Much love...
